Now that you understand the importance of your own domain, let's learn how to get one.

There are a few options that I know of:
  1. Buy a domain from Best Web Hosting Provider 2022.
  2. Find a free domain (it will end with .tk or .ml or something other than the usual .com or .org - sites like dot.tk show you your options).
  3. Use a Dynamic DNS service.

Before I continue, you should understand about IP addresses. They change. Unless you pay your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to assign you a static (unchanging) IP address, they can change it whenever they want to. This means that nobody will be able to find your site, because your address keeps on changing.

Now, let me explain what a Dynamic DNS (remember, Domain Name System) service is. A Dynamic DNS service will solve this problem of your IP address being changed all the time. Here's what happens once you're set up with this service:

Every few minutes, your computer will send a signal to the Dynamic DNS server, telling it "Hey, my IP address is <whatever it is> now!

This way, whenever your IP changes, your server has a way to let the rest of the internet know where it lives now. People will always be able to find your site, even when your ISP changes your IP. The requests will go to the DNS service's site, and their server will point the way to your server.

Now, given the options I listed above, we're going to go with option 3, because it gets us a domain AND sets us up with a Dynamic DNS service all in one. It's very efficient. It's also very free. Now, in the next session, I'll help you get set up.
